Darnley’s Gin is made using only natural ingredients; the best botanicals, the freshest Scottish water and pure spirit. We believe that by respecting the ingredients gifted to us by nature, and not using colours, sweeteners or artificial flavourings, we can create gin that brings a nuanced and authentic taste to your glass.
A Cottage Gin
Our story is rooted in Fife, Scotland where our family have lived and worked for centuries, and it is here that our gin making journey begins. In partnership with local experts, we forage for some of our botanicals, like the elderflower that grows wild in the grounds of Wemyss Castle, our family’s ancestral home.
The derelict farm cottage next to our whisky distillery in the village of Kingsbarns was the perfect space to realise our dream of distilling gin in Fife, where our family have lived and worked for centuries.
In the gardens surrounding Darnley’s Gin Cottage, we grow as many botanicals as the Scottish weather allows but more exotic ingredients, like cinnamon and grains of paradise, need warmer climates so are sourced from growers around the world that we’ve come to know and trust. We continue to grow, forage and source in our endless botanical exploration.
Our still, Dorothy
Darnley’s Gin is made in a 350l copper pot still that fits perfectly in our small cottage. She is named Dorothy after two of our regular visitors, and we also have a tour guide called Dot, so it honours one of our team too!
Our Head Distiller, Aaron, uses this copper pot still to make Darnley's Gin in the London Dry style to produce a gin with uncompromising quality and flavour.
Distilling Darnley's
Each bottle of Darnley’s Gin begins with the highest quality British grown grain spirit and the finest botanical ingredients. We pride ourselves on making a gin that’s perfectly natural, which is why we make London Dry Gin. This means that no additional flavours or sugars are added after distillation, only purified water to reduce our gin to its bottling strength. Our carefully selected combination of botanicals are steeped in the base spirit, allowing the essential oils and flavours to be released before distillation.
Our Sustainability Journey
At Darnley's Gin, our commitment to sustainability is integral to our
gin-making philosophy. We believe that crafting premium gin goes hand in hand
with preserving and respecting the natural environment.
Natural Ingredients
We use only natural botanicals in our gin, many of which are grown in our
own garden or foraged locally in Fife. This approach not only ensures the
freshest ingredients but also reduces our carbon footprint by minimising
transportation.
Sustainable Packaging
To combat single-use glass, we have introduced refillable gin pouches. These
lightweight pouches are fully recyclable and significantly reduce the energy
required for production and transportation. Customers can return used pouches
to us for recycling, promoting a circular economy.
Recycling Initiatives
We offer a recycling scheme that transforms our 70cl glass bottles into
eco-friendly candles. These candles are made with eco-soy wax, making them both
environmentally and vegan friendly. This initiative gives our bottles a second
life and reduces waste.
Renewable Energy
Our distillery operates on 100% renewable energy sourced from our own hydro
schemes. By harnessing natural power, we significantly reduce our carbon
footprint and set a sustainable example within the industry.
Electric Vehicles
Our sales team has transitioned to 100% electric vehicles, further reducing
our carbon emissions and demonstrating our commitment to sustainable practices.
Through these initiatives, Darnley's Gin strives to create a product that
not only delights the palate but also honours and preserves the natural world.

Darnley’s Original is distilled with six botanicals including juniper, elderflower, coriander and lemon peel to create a classic London Dry Gin that is fresh, floral and vibrant.

The Inspiration
Our recipe for Darnley’s Original was inspired by elderflower growing wild around the Wemyss family estate in Scotland.
After picking copious amounts to dry out and then test in the stills, we knew we wanted to create a light, floral, citrus flavoured gin in the London Dry Style which honours our distillers past.
Bottled at 40% ABV, this London Dry Gin has a long and dry finish and is perfect for a G&T.
